The XM’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Vistiq doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The XM has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Vistiq doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XM’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Vistiq doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the XM and the Vistiq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The XM’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Vistiq’s (12 vs. 6 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the XM for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Vistiq.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. With 4 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Cadillac.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 13 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The XM’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 123 more horsepower (738 vs. 615) and 88 lbs.-ft. more torque (738 vs. 650) than the Vistiq’s electric motors.

The XM has a standard locking fuel door and a locking charge port with a power remote release convenient to the driver and which locks and unlocks with the power locks, respectively. The Vistiq doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better traction and acceleration, the XM has larger rear tires than the Vistiq (315/30R23 vs. 285/45R21). The XM’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the Vistiq (315/30R23 vs. 305/35R23).

The XM’s standard 275/40R22 front and 315/35R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Vistiq’s standard 45 series tires. The XM’s 315/30R23 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the Vistiq’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XM has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 21-inch wheels are standard on the Vistiq.

The XM has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Vistiq doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The rear suspension of the XM uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Vistiq, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The XM offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Cadillac doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Vistiq.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the XM is 1.2 inches wider in the front than on the Vistiq.

The XM Label handles at .97 G’s, while the Vistiq Sport pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The XM Label executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.7 seconds quicker than the Vistiq Sport (23.9 seconds @ .84 average G’s vs. 26.6 seconds @ .71 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the XM has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Vistiq (8.7 vs. 7.2 inches), allowing the XM to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The BMW XM may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 pounds less than the Cadillac Vistiq.

The XM is 4.4 inches shorter than the Vistiq, making the XM easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the XM uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Vistiq doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The XM has 3.9 inches more front hip room, .1 inches more rear legroom and 2.9 inches more rear hip room than the Vistiq.

The XM has a much larger cargo volume than the Vistiq with its rear seat up (18.6 vs. 15.2 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the XM. The Vistiq doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The XM’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Vistiq’s (5952 vs. 5000 pounds).

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the XM to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Vistiq doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Vistiq’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The XM’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.
